God Bless everyone who helped extinguish this fire. I love snowmobiling the Eastern End of the UP every winter. It's no surprize to me that everyone in the region is helping out in anyway. I'll make sure to help the economy next winter. Best Regards, Another MTU Troll in Wisconsin, wishing to be In dah UP!

We all want to thank everyone who has been involved with helping to put out the fires. That includes all the people who have supported the firefighters in anyway. It is so nice to know that we live in a community that can pull together in an emergency!

Thank you all for your wonderful work !! my mother is just outside of Curtis camping and I have been kept well informed of what's going on with the fires . After spending many vacations visiting a large family (Lamirand and McApine), it is sad to see the beatiful country burn ,but it is also a wonderful feeling to know that no human lives were lost . I hope that all will be able to return to homes and family soon . Thank you again

We left with our family for a long weekend (August 7) to go to our cabin in Pine Stump, to re-tarpaper the outside of the cabin. On the way north, we heard of the fire. We stayed the night in Newberry (the last room left!), spent the morning at Zellar's with a Logger's Breakfast, talking to the Sherrif's at 4 Mile Corner. At this point in time, praise God, only 1 structure had been lost. Our cabin was safe. Thank You to everyone for not letting the fire jump 407. We heard this week about the bear attacks. Our hearts go out you. Thank You for fighting for the long run, and not giving up on our North Country. The North Country and the cabin has been part of our family since 1968. To me, it is the last of God's Country. Thank You from our family's hearts - God Speed.

I would like to share with all of you this poem written by my Father, William Kessell, a 37 year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department. It is dedicated to all our brave heroes fighting these fires. Tribute to a Firefighter What manner of man is this, Who day by day will risk his life To save a strangers children, to save a strangers wife To enter a building, filled with smoke and flame, This dear friend, is a deadly game. Timbers weakened by fire and heat, Often collapse neath Firefighters feet, Trapping them, under timber and stone Victims themselves, now wait alone Unable to get free - they now contemplate, Rescuer becomes victim - what an ironic fate Masculine exterior -Macho - you bet. With a love for kids you'll never forget Religious, each loves God in his own special way, Pleas for protection, their families pray, Please guide him safely throughout this day. Their eyes have seen things too awful to tell Burned in their memories, forever to dwell, Often we lose one - who can say why Along with his loved ones, his comrades will cry The world lost a hero - heaven gained a Saint In performing his duty - he never was faint So when the sirens wail pierces the air Please stop what you're doing To whisper a prayer - for a speedy response and a safe return Without injuries and nary a burn. What manner of man do we have here, A gift from God, we all should hold dear. Thank you all for all you do.
